Beekle by Dan Santat
This is one of my favourite picture books of all time! The story and illustrations are absolutely wonderful. The story begins with Beekle, who is an imaginary friend that is waiting to be imagined; Beekle can’t wait for his friend to imagine him, he waits for a long time watching all the other friends get imagined, so decides to take matters into his own hands, and sets off to find his friend. We are then taken through an incredible landscape of adventure until he finds his way to our land. His search for his friend turns out to be harder than he thought, but as expected he prevails in finding his friend and they have the world’s greatest time together.
This is a story about bravery and how it can be hard to make new friends, but that the journey is well worth the while. Those who enjoyed Imaginary Fred by Oliver Jeffers, will find this picture book enchanting and delightful. With vivid colours and a charming story, it is sure to entertain any child. (Aimed at ages between 2 & 4.)
