The Girl in Green - Derek Miller

From the author of Norwegian by Night, the book opens in 1991 as the first Gulf War is finishing.  British journalist Thomas Benton meets a  midwestern American private Arwood Hobbes, who seems to be a lunatic with a death wish.  As they debate whether to cross the border for an ice cream, an army attack erupts and a young local girl in green is killed before their eyes.  Twenty-two years later Hobbes contacts Benton convinced that he has seen the same girl on the news in a refugee convoy and persuades Benton to join him in locating her.

Described as 'a thriller with a conscience' this fast-paced, sometimes darkly funny book reflects the chaos and horror of contemporary Syria and Iraq and a chilling insight into ISIL.
