Australians think they know of the Lindt Cafe Siege in the week before Christmas 2014. They know who Man Haron Monis was and who his two victims were. Through current affairs TV and popular magazines, they know something of the experience of the hostages. Following the coroner's inquiry and report they learnt something of what was happening behind the scenes while that drama was unfolding. But only a book can put all that together into one coherent narrative. And only a seasoned journalist who attended key sessions of the inquest, pored over over statements, submissions and exhibits, has followed further trails of evidence and has come to know some of the victims and their families can hope to paint the full picture.
